Initial investigations projected an estimated P50,000 damage
on a ruined segment of the Manila Zoo canteen
which contained kitchen tools.
The city fire marshal, Superintendent Jaime Ramirez,
clarified that no animals nor people
were harmed during the incident.
were harmed during the incident.
At 10:12 PM, it was then declared fire out
thought it is yet to be determined what caused the fire.
Speculations had been going around the social media
on its probable cause, but one is really weighing in.
Many netizens voiced out their belief
that it was a mere attempt to vitiate the zoo
for a detrimental recourse of the facility.
News broke earlier this year that the local government
of Manila have rehabilitation plans for the facility
for it to become a world-class zoo.
The project will be run as a joint venture, public-private
partnership enterprise, with the city government
allowing the investor, Metropolitan Zoo and Botanical Garden, Inc.,
to operate the zoo for several years to recoup its 1.5 billion investment.
Other bidders were also welcomed for the said project.
It appears to most Filipinos as a bid to sell-off Manila Zoo.
But whether the fire was connected to this plan or not,
we are yet to find out as the investigation continue.
For the meantime, let us just thank the night's heroes,
the fearless firefighters who responded to the site.
If it was not for them, the fire could have spread
and God knows what else might have happened.
